Pelvic Floor / Athletic Therapy
Dana is a fully Certified Athletic Therapist with a Bachelor of Athletic and Exercise Therapy. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Disability Management. Despite the title, Dana assesses and treats a wide scope of injuries in all demographics, including pelvic floor and perinatal injuries and dysfunctions.
Born and raised in Nanaimo, she graduated from Dover Bay High School in 2010, then immediately began her post-secondary education at Vancouver Island University (VIU) in the Bachelor of Arts of Physical Education program. She soon knew this was not the path she wanted to take and was accepted into the Bachelor of Athletic and Exercise Therapy program at Camosun College. She moved to Victoria, BC where she studied Athletic and Exercise Therapy for four years graduating at the top of her class. This required 600 hours of field experience, and 600 hours of clinical experience. She worked with various teams including VIU varsity teams and the Nanaimo Senior B Timbermen Lacrosse team. With both competing as a national level gymnast, and being a national level women’s artistic gymnastics and trampoline gymnastics coach, a highlight of her career has been working as part of the medical team as an Athletic Therapist at the 2017 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Montreal, QC. She also has had the privilege to complete her clinical hours with many leading practitioners with a variety of specialties, which played an integral part in developing her into the clinician she is today.
Dana always had a special interest in treating and rehabilitating injuries of the spine, hips and pelvis. Fast forward a few years into her practice, and she gained a special interest in women’s health and particularly in the pre-rehabilitation and rehabilitation of injuries and dysfunctions during pregnancy and postpartum, and overall pelvic health. She finds working with this demographic extremely rewarding. Other areas of interest are concussion management, sports, and children/youth.
Dana approaches her practice as client centred. Ensuring to utilize her distinct skillset to pinpoint the exact needs of the client to work together to develop a treatment plan that is both evidence-based, but also meets the goals and lifestyle of the individual.
